Recycling success in Ballymena

Ballymena household recycling levels have remained at a very high level one year on from the introduction of a weekly Bryson Recycling’s box collection service, which has resulted in a 64% increase in materials collected.

The impact of this increased service has resulted in the collection of 1858 tonnes of material from April 08 to March 09.

Commenting on the success, Director of Bryson Recycling Eric Randall said: “Bryson Recycling would like to thank households for their co-operation and continued efforts to use the service so effectively”.

“I would also like to commend Ballymena Borough Council for introducing the weekly box collection service to all households.”

Donna Carey, Senior Environmental Health Officer with Ballymena Borough Council requested the continued co-operation of local residents: “These latest figures are extremely encouraging and again demonstrate the continued efforts of local residents and the effective partnership between Bryson Recycling and the Council to improve recycling levels across the Borough.

“Ballymena’s waste collection measures are making a positive environmental impact; assisting the Council in complying with EU Legislation and avoiding significant financial penalties. They have also helped to reduce the negative impact of waste disposal costs on household rates bills. I would strongly encourage households to keep recycling their waste materials as much as possible through the Bryson box collection service.”
